昨日、僕はジョン・ランディスが連絡してきて、彼から連絡を貰って本当に嬉しかったという事について語った。今日、僕は「星の王子ニューヨークへ行く」のサウンドトラックのメイキングに費やした時間について更に多く考えた。それは僕が大編成オーケストラを使った最初の映画となった。その詳細については僕の本"Le Freak"で述べている。
僕は（昨日とは）また別の舞台裏映像をシェアしたいと思った。今回は、僕がドッティが活躍するシーンの為のオーケストラを指揮するものだ。
ダリル”ソウルグロ(ヘアスプレー)の王子”ジェンクスを追い掛け回しているシーンでのドッティをきっと覚えていることと思う。セレオ・マクドウェルの忠実なプードルだ。

驚きに満ちた
”星の王子 ニューヨークへ行く”を作り終えた後のエディ・マーフィと僕。80年代のナイトクラブにて。
人生はいつも驚きに満ちている。先週、僕がロンドンで僕の自叙伝Le Freakのインタビューを受けていた時、謎に満ちた手紙を受け取った。そして今日、僕は同じ人物からeメールを受け取った。両方とも僕を微笑ませるものだった。それはどちらもジョン・ランディス-マイケル・ジャクソン”スリラー”、エディ・マーフィ”星の王子 ニューヨークへ行く”の監督からだった。後者は僕が大編成オーケストラを使った最初の映画となった。僕は彼からの連絡がとても嬉しかった。その、”星の王子 ニューヨークへ行く”の譜面書きについては僕の本に述べている。
パラマウントにある僕のレコーディングスタジオは一見の価値がある場所だった。来る日も来る日もジェームス・アール・ジョーンズ、オプラ・ウィンフリー、 アポロニア、 ポーラ・アブドゥルそして沢山のアーティストが立ち寄っていた。だが、そのスタジオの心臓部(鼓動)は、ミュージシャンと音楽だ。ジョン、この機会を僕に与えてくれてありがとう。そして、僕に二回も(手紙・メールを)書いてくれてありがとう。人生はいつも驚きに満ちている。
撮影とこの完成版の前の振り付け用に、僕が(振り付け担当の)ポーラ・アブドゥルの為に事前作曲した、アフリカン・ダンスのシーンを編集する楽譜を修正する指示を僕にくれている監督、ジョン・ランディス。

僕の朝の散歩の終わり
今朝早く、僕は爽やかな空気の中散歩をした。(家を)離れる時、僕は振り返って僕の家に朝日が反射しているところを見ることが出来た。何故だか分からないが、朝日の反射は僕に、僕の昔のパートナーでThe CHIC Organizationの共同創立者であったバーナード・エドワーズを思い出させる。彼は15年前に亡くなり、今年の早い時期に日本の(TV)ネットワークWOWOWは僕のドキュメンタリーを撮った。彼は昇る太陽の地(日出づる国)として知られる日本で亡くなり、このフィルムの重要な部分はバーナードの死を扱っている。

A New Beginning

新たな始まり

約一年前、僕は進行性の前立腺癌と診断された。数日後に、右手が殆ど使えなくなるという神経系の事件が起こった。僕は、筋肉損傷を被ったという事を示す幾つもの痛みを伴うテストを受けたが、その原因は定かではなかった。
100%完全に戻った訳ではないものの、この最近のロンドンでのショーで僕の右手が回復しているのを見る事ができるだろう
"Le Freak" (おしゃれフリーク)"は、右手の動きを止めず、そしてその動きが正確でなくてはならないという一番演奏が難しいCHICの曲だ。このビデオは、沢山の人々がステージの上で楽しんでいるところを示しており、それはまた新たな始まりも示している。
