今週はジョン・レノンの死の31周年記念だ。”レット・イット・ビー”は レノン/マッカートニーとクレジットでされており、それは彼らの、その名義による最後の曲だった。僕のバーナード・エドワーズとのパートナーシップはとてもそれに似ていて、僕らは常に共作をしている訳ではなかったが、僕らもCHIC Organization LTD時代は同様にいつも共作とクレジットしていた。

僕はギターを弾くことに対し、新たな感謝をしている。約1年前、僕が極めて進行性の強い型の前立腺癌と診断されてすぐ、僕にはまた手の力を失う原因となった神経学的出来事があった。僕の右手はかつてのようではないものの、良くなってきている。

"So Fine"(邦題「恋のジーンズ大作戦/巨人の女に手を出すな」)の映画ポスター
昨夜、僕はベルリンでレッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズ、ベルリンで撮影していた映画” Cloud Atlas”からの、トム・ハンクス、ラナ・ウォシャウスキー、デイヴィッド・ミッチェル他の仲間たちと素晴らしい集まりを持った。RHCPのコンサートはとても素敵だった。
今日、僕が一緒のツアーはドイツ、マンハイムに向かった。バスに乗っている間、アリソン・モイエは僕に、”余り知られていないあなたの曲を集めて、演奏するって考えた事ある？”と訊いた。僕は彼女に言った。”いいね、やりたいね。”
僕はふるえるようにシック(CHIC)な曲をライアン・オニールが主演した”So Fine”という映画に書いた。僕は、その映画がとてもセクシーで人目を引くと思っていた。何故なら、それはおしりが透明なビニールを通して見えるようになっているジーンズを作る会社についてのものだったからだ。その映画はセクシーではなく、僕らはその曲を提供しなかったが、ギターソロのメドレーの一部として、来年演奏したいと思う。僕は、それはとても素敵だと思う。

The Funny Thing to Do

そうするのは奇妙なこと
僕はベッドから出て僕の(部屋の)窓の外をつたう藤の写真を撮ろうとカメラを手にした。
今日、僕は ドイツ、ベルリンのアドロンホテルのベッドからの眺めにうっとりしていた。僕は起きてその写真を撮ろうとカメラを手にした。僕は下の中庭でこだまする力強い会話に気づかず、つたう藤にとても魅了された。
何枚かの写真を撮った後、僕は何かを見つめている人間は僕一人ではない、という奇妙な感覚をもち始めた（自分への視線を感じた）。僕は左側を見つめ、セミナーらしき一団を見た。
僕の瞳は何人かの人々が集まっているのを捉え、そして僕は自分が全くの裸である事に思い至った。これは珍しいことではない。なぜなら、僕は独りでいる時、着衣していない方がより快適だと感じるからだ。何が珍しかったかというと、その縦長のホテルの窓のせいで、僕は他人である彼らに完全に自分の裸を晒していたことだ。
僕は微笑み、肩をすくめて彼らの写真を撮った。僕がひけらかそうとしていなかった事は明白だし、僕は余りにショックだったので姿を現したくなかった。この場合にそうするのは奇妙なことのように思えたのだ。

Simply Beautiful

ただただ、美しい
ホテルアドロン
僕は、ホテルアドロンが、沢山の素晴らしい事のために有名であるという事を知っている。勿論、マイケル・ジャクソンが彼の赤ん坊を窓の外にぶら下げ、ひどく興奮したドイツのファンが彼に声援を送った事を皆覚えているだろう。僕が今朝早く風呂に滑りこんだ時、一つの考えに圧倒された。このホテルは、ただただ、美しい、と。
マイケル・ジャクソンが彼の赤ん坊を窓の外にぶら下げた事を皆覚えているだろう。
僕はこれを上手に撮れなかった。その背面の壁は凸面で、それは次のエントランスへ、そして離れたトイレットルームへと導いている。その玄関ホールの天井はくぼみ、金箔で飾られている。
その部屋がどれだけ素晴らしいか判らないだろう。だって、僕は鏡の中に写り込まないようにしたかったのだから。
とても沢山の幾何学的角度があり、これらの写真はその部屋(の素晴らしさ)をちゃんと捉えきれていない。
僕はリビングルームを通り、この高貴な庭園に抜け出る事が出来る。
多くの人々はこのアル・グリーンの曲”シンプリー・ビューティフル”のソウルフルなシンプルさに気付かないかもしれない。僕は今朝の入浴の間、それをずっと（心の中で）奏で続けていた。

「音楽は悩みに効く」と言われ、他の言い方では音楽は癒すパワーがあるとも言う。それはいつも僕の救い主であり、そして最近僕はとても調子が良くない。
僕は二人の医師の診察と投薬治療を受けた。そしてベッドでよく休んだ。だが、驚いた事に、今日眠る代わりにギターの練習をしたら、僕は気分がより一層良くなった。これは全て偶然とタイミングのせいか、それとも全てが一緒に良く効いたかだろう。
